Transportation

One of the great things about Utila is that there are only a few cars here, and those are just for taxis or the utility and delivery companies. So you will definitely be car-less during your stay on the island!

However, as many of the vacation rentals on Utila are located slightly out of town (1 - 1.5 miles), we do suggest some type of transport, such as bicycles, golf carts, scooters, or 4-wheelers. Some of our guests do choose to walk and take taxis and have been happy with their decision, so this really will be entirely up to you. A taxi will cost about $4/person out to the units or back (but not all units have phones AND taxis are difficult to obtain after dark).

If you just want bikes: You can let us know and we will ask a bike shop to hold them for you. Please keep in mind that this is just a request to the shop on our part - we can NOT guarantee it will be available that day as the owner may be out to lunch, sleeping, or "just forgot". But we can at least help. Bikes are $5/day, and we reserve them at Lauras, which is just ferry side of Mermaids Restaurant. It is a very old house, slightly tilted.

If you want any other form or transport: Below is the contact information to reserve your transportation. the owners of these companies have asked us to have the guests contact them directly (all speak English). Golf Carts run about $45 - $55 USD/day, and scooters are $25 - $40 USD/day. We have found that you may need to email a few times to ensure you have a reservation.

Please note: **If you do get an electric scooter or golf cart and charge it at the unit, there is a $4 USD/night charging fee just to cover the cost of electricity.**

Lance Bodden Rentals

• Rents golf carts (2 seater and 4 seater), motorcycles, 4-wheelers, and some scooters and bikes.
• Has both gas and electric carts.
• Located just before town center, on the way in from the airport, so your taxi can stop there, and then take your golf cart to the unit. If you are coming off the ferry, just walk straight up about a block - he is on the right.
