Open spacious floor plan with the ocean outside your windows

You can literally hear the sounds of water lapping the shoreline and let the quiet rhythm of the sea lull you to sleep. A charming blend of Caribbean nostalgia, this home was conceived for those who truly want to get away from it all.

Large windows in every room boast spectacular views of the sandy beach and turquoise water. An open floor plan creates a special place to refresh and renew.  From the wooden front deck off the beach, you can sit among the towering palms as they sway in the cool tropical breeze

A Little More About its Boat-Access Location:

Pelican’s Nest is located at Coral Beaches, which  is also known to the locals as Pretty Bush or Little Bight.  This  is a unique boat-access only location that offers a wonderful opportunity for a true Caribbean beach house without the crowds.

You will arrive to the area through the Oyster Bed Lagoon and a series of canals, reaching a large-inland marina which is a very short walk (1 minute) to your house.  Water taxis are available for approx $15 usd per boat, one way; evening trips after darks are approx $25 usd one way for the boat.

Keep in mind that most Captains won’t run trips after about 9pm, and there is a chance that you won't always get a Captain the exact minute you may want it, so if you are looking to do lots of daily back and forth into town and/or late-night in-town partying, this house is not going to be your best option! But if you are looking for a private, true Caribbean beach house that is right on the water and very comfortable, this is a great option.

Andi (manager of Destination Utila) and her husband actually live out here and love it! (And we end up going into town almost daily, so you could probably could hitch a ride with us a few times if your schedule matches...)

Power

There is 24 hour power to this area, so as long as the Utila power plant is sending it, you should have it.

Water

Coral Beach has a community water system which receives water through a well and rainwater collection.  The water is then distributed through underground water lines to the homes. The homes also collect rainwater on their roof.  This water is all used for showering, sinks, etc.  Purified water is provided for drinking.

Telephone Service
There is no phone service to Coral Beach as of yet, however all houses are equipped with VHF radios.  Cellular reception is spotty, but possible.

Activities & Entertainment

However you chose to explore, be it snorkeling, swimming, fishing, hiking, bird watching, iguana photographing, beach combing, the possibilities for adventure are unlimited!  At Pelican’s Nest, you are able to take full advantage of the sandy beaches, spectacular Caribbean ocean and an enchanting interior island, lush with mangroves, a variety of seabird and shorebird species, various species of tropical plants and flowers, and iguana.  Other popular options are going to the cays for a day trip, or simply just spending the day lazing away on your porch,  or comfortable couches and taking a dip in the ocean at your leisure.

Want to explore the magic of the undersea world? You will find clear turquoise waters teeming with diverse marine life and vibrant coral reefs; you can experience incredible snorkeling and world class SCUBA diving from your front door.   Located only 60’ from the ocean, you can snorkel to your hearts content. If you prefer diving, some of the best diving and snorkeling on Utila is right out front of your house, and the dive buoys out front are popular with many of the dive shops.

Going into town for a day trip is also available via water taxi. The village of Utila is also a wonderful place to wander.  There are several scenic walks and bicycle rides. As well, with the interesting collection of shops, restaurants, and even  a “home-made” movie theater,  there are plenty of activities to help create a great vacation.

Provisions List

Would you like your Pelican’s Nest stocked with fresh food and produce for when you arrive? Why not let us take care of making sure you can enjoy a cold drink upon arriving?. No need for you to wrestle grocery bags after traveling all day!  Simply fill out a provisions list request, email it back to us, and we will ensure that those items are waiting for you.  We can do this for a flat $35 fee. (Note that if your are arriving in with the late ferry, you will NOT have time to do a full shopping as we like to do the first trip before it is dark, but we can stop for 5 minutes or so at the store to let you get the quick basics for dinner, and you can come back in the next morning.)
